New Data Request for Joint Cetacean Protocol

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) who are the statutory adviser to the UK Government on UK and International nature conservation, have requested MARINElife to provide research data to a collaborative initiative they are leading called the Joint Cetacean Protocol (JCP).

Scientifically rigorous data gathering is vital for the JCP Population trends of species such as the Bottlenose Dolphin will be made available  MARINElife research surveyors at work

The JCP will deliver information on the distribution, abundance and population trends of cetacean species occurring in the waters of the UK, Ireland and wider northeast Atlantic. The products of the JCP will be made available online and in a new cetacean atlas, enabling greater understanding of the health of cetacean populations and informing management and protection of the marine environment. These products will also assist governmental reporting to various Directives including the EC Habitats and Species Directive and Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

Further information on JCP can be found at here.
