Humpback whale in Lyme Bay (24.02.2017)

Humpback Slapton 3Seabird Expert Mark Dalaston recently observed the Humpback Whale off Slapton in Lyme Bay in a rare sighting of the species close to shore in the area.

Dr Tom Brereton, MARINElife Director of Research commented: "sightings of Humpback Whales in and around the area are almost an annual event, but it is rare to see the species from shore".

The whale has been in the area for a number of days feeding on Herring and Sprat, the last one being seen so close off West Bay and Charmouth in April 1992.
