Come and join MARINElife on Lundy Island for a 5 night/6 day marine wildlife experience.
Thursday 28th June to Tuesday 3rd July, 2018
Lundy is a perfect place to find natural beauty and wildlife in abundance. We invite you to join us in a specially prepared programme of training and island excursions with MARINElife's trainer Rick Morris, MARINElife patron Maya Plass and the Lundy Island warden.
The 5 night/6 day course is a fantastic opportunity to improve your seabird, sea mammal, and seashore wildlife identification skills, both from our detailed presentations, and through sustained field observation. Benefit from our trainers' insights into behaviour, and learn how to accurately record your observations.
On arrival a full programme of activities including rock pooling, snorkel safari, seal survey, guided walks, and sea watch will run through until Tuesday morning before the late afternoon return trip to Bideford, and then by free coach to Ilfracombe.
More detailed information about the wildlife on Lundy and surrounding seas can be found at the Lundy Island website www.lundyisland.co.uk and on the MARINElife website at www.marine-life.org.uk/sightings
Travel to the island, accommodation, costs and booking
You will travel to Lundy on the MS Oldenburg, Lundy's own ship. On board facilities include a bar, buffet, shop and information centre about Lundy.
To keep costs down we have reserved 'The Barn' on the island as accommodation for the length of your stay. The accommodation is made up of two rooms (sleeping 8 and 6 respectively) and is well-equipped with open fireplace and kitchen to prepare meals.
There is a tavern and shop on Lundy. Both are open each day so you have the choice of purchasing meals or buying basic food items. Prior to your trip you can also place an order with the island for supplies to be delivered to the Barn on your arrival.
Participants will pay £289 to MARINElife for the 5-day course, but will need to book and pay for travel to the island (£65 return), accommodation (£54), and food separately. In total participants will be paying £408 plus food. There may also be an option, at additional cost, to join a round-Lundy boat trip or dive trip during your stay.
Full payment of the MARINElife course fee of £289 will be needed to confirm your booking (non-refundable ). There are just 14 places on this course so you are advised to book early.
Accommodation and ferry bookings must be paid for by 26th March 2018.
We regret that we cannot accept bookings for those under the age of 18 years. Bookings are final, and we are unable to accept cancellations once payment has been made to MARINElife.
You are solely responsible and liable for confirming and making payment for your ferry booking and accommodation in the Barn. Full details of how to make payment will be sent with your confirmed MARINElife booking.
You are solely responsible and liable for arranging your own travel to and from your home and Ilfracombe.
Please note that in the unlikely event of severe weather preventing the Lundy Ferry sailing participants will be flown to/from the island by helicopter at a subsidised additional cost of £35 each single journey. Should you choose not to travel by helicopter or that conditions make travel by helicopter impossible we regret we are unable to provide a refund on your booking.
Please ensure you have the necessary travel insurance to cover this eventuality and your trip as a whole.
