MARINElife Researchers Encounter Fin Whales on Swansea to Cork Fastnet Line (10.08.11)

MARINElife's research team have encountered a group of Fin Whales including a breaching young animal on a survey aboard Fastnet Line's Julia from Swansea to Cork.

The animals were encountered near the southern Irish coast apparently feeding close to the surface. As well as Fin Whales, the survey also encountered other cetaceans including Common Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises and a Minke Whale close to the Welsh coast.

Massses of seabirds were also encountered including over 13,000 Manx Shearwaters, together with two Great Shearwaters and two Sooty Shearwatesr.
