The Joint Nature
Concervation Committee (JNCC) have commissioned MARINElife and the
Atlantic Research Coalition (ARC) partners to produce a report to
assess whether ARC data is being evaluated as to whether it
could be used to assess status over this timeframe. Work
includes modelling trends in abundance at regional and national
scales for individual species and species assemblages and assessing
the statistical power to detect trends.
The Habitats Directive is one of the cornerstones of Europe's
Nature Conservation Policy. The main aims of the directive are
to promote and maintain biodiversity requiring European countries
to take measures to maintain or restore natural habitat and certain
listed wild species at a favourable conservation status,
introducing protection for those habitats and species of European
importance. Under the Habitats Directive, the UK and the EU
Governments are required to assess the conservation status of
cetaceans every 6 years.
