Natural England have awarded a project to MARINElife and partners including Footprint Ecology to investigate management guidelines for seabird and cetacean by-catch reduction/mitigation measures in Marine Conservation Zones.
Marine Conservation Zones are a new
type of Marine Protected Area created under the Marine and Coastal
Access Act. The Marine Conservation Zone Project is being led by
Natural England and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC)
to recommend zones to the Government.
There are four regional projects:
- South West Seas (Finding Sanctuary)
- Irish Sea (Irish Sea Conservation Zones)
- North Sea (Net Gain)
- South East Seas (Balanced Seas)
MARINElife data has been supplied as part of the Net Gain
and Finding Santuary projects.
