ResearchMarinelife is underpinned by years of research. Our biggest dataset is from the year round research of BDRP. Built up since 1995 from surveys through the fabulously biodiverse Bay of Biscay, this information is providing a valuable insight into the trends in the populations and movements of cetaceans, seabirds and other marine life. This has grown into co-operation with other research in the form of the Atlantic Research Coalition and regular attendance of European Cetacean conferences. Marinelife also supports PhD research projects both in the Bay of Biscay and globally. Two current projects being supported are: Karen Stockin is examining the occurrence, distribution, behaviour and biology of the Common Dolphin in the Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand. See Karen's personal profile and details of her research. Jackie Smith's research focuses on the distribution of Beaked Whale in and around submarine canyons, particularly the Cuvier’s Beaked Whale and the CapBreton canyon in the Bay of Biscay. See Jackie's personal profile and details of her research. Marinelife has a strong and diverse team of researchers to support our research of oceanic and coastal wildlife. There is growing understanding that the marine environment is under pressure from a range of activities and we are keen to complement research and education efforts along our coasts.
